CHILDREN’S HEARING AID LOANER BANK
Hearing loss affects many children every year in Nebraska . Thirty-four babies born in 2006 and forty-three born in 2007 had a permanent hearing loss. Unfortunately, most insurance companies do not cover the cost of hearing aids. It takes time for most parents to secure the funding for their children’s personal amplification, and this is a critical period in a child’s life for language development.
Whether waiting for personal amplification or awaiting cochlear implant surgery, Nebraska families need a program for temporary assistance. This is the role of the Nebraska Children’s Hearing Aid Loaner Bank.
This program has been developed in partnership with:
- Barkley Memorial Speech and Hearing Center , University of Nebraska at Lincoln,
- Nebraska Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program, Lifespan Health Services, Division of Public Health, Department of Health and Human Services, and
- Nebraska Association for the Education of Young Children, Inc.
A printable brochure has been developed for your information and/or distribution.
If you wish to donate to this cause, checks can be sent to the Nebraska AEYC, indicating you wish to support the Children’s Hearing aid Loaner Bank.
“See how nature – trees, flowers, grass – grows in silence; see the stars,
the moon and the sun, how they move in silence…
we need silence to be able to touch souls.”
