WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD

April 19th – 25th , 2009

The Week of the Young Child is an annual event, sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.  It provides a time to celebrate young children and thank the early childhood teachers and everyone who is involved in the care and education of young children.  This is also a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the issues affecting young children and their families, and to rally more people to speak out about how these issues affect your community.  The theme for WOYC 2009 is

Bring Communites Together for Children - Children Bring Communities Together

NAEYC encourages state and local Affiliates, early childhood programs, and organizations who work on behalf of young children to plan WOYC events that will bring your community together.

In Nebraska, many events are held to recognize the Week of the Young Child

Governor’s Proclamation- each year for many years, Nebraska’s governor has recognized the Week of the Young Child and has signed a proclamation.  The proclamation ceremony was held on March 11, 2009, at the Nebraska State Capitol.
